The Birth of Ladkem
Initially founded by Dr. Festus Odunayo Oshoba as a means to sustain his expanding family, Ladkem Eye Hospital has grown to become one of the leading eye care hospitals in Nigeria. The name "Ladkem" was derived from his children's other names "Ladipo" and "Kemi".
The 2000’s
Into The New Age
The first decade of the 21st Century brought a number of discoveries, mistakes, and medical advances that have influenced medicine from the patient's bedside to the medicine cabinet. In some cases these advances changed deep-seated beliefs in medicine; in others, they opened up possibilities beyond what doctors thought was possible years ago.
2005
The NHIS: A New Beginning
The history of NHIS could be traced back to 1962. However, the scheme became operational in 2005 as a tripartite public-private arrangement among three main stakeholder operators; the NHIS, the HMOs and health care providers. The other stakeholder are the enrolees under the scheme
2008 to 2016
Expansion: Business is Booming
In or around the launch of the NHIS, Dr Oshoba steps down as President of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and retires from public service. This was the beginning of the fruitful years for the hospital. The goodwill from his time in public office coupled with the newly launched NHIS provided the hospital with it's continuously growing patient base. In 2016 Ladkem relocates to its new HQ off Bode Thomas Surulere, Lagos.
2020
The Future of Ladkem
After 30+ years of renting buildings to bring our patients world class services, Ladkem has begun proceedings to usher in a new age by taking steps to acquire its very first official building in Surulere, Lagos.
